Ghana made light work of their Algerian counterparts by walloping them by 5 goals to 0 in the first leg of qualifiers for the U20 FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP to be hosted in France. The match was played in Algeria at the Omar Hamadi stadium yesterday,September 15 in front of a vociferous crowd of Algerian women’s football fans.
The Ghanaians kicked off at blistering pace from the blast of the whistle which created much problems for the home side. With their precise passes,the Ghanaians dominated proceedings with mesmerizing play much to the bewilderment of the Algerian players and fans.
The Ghanaians opened scoring in the 24th minute of the first half through Asantewa Grace who split the Algerian defence to place a low shot in the back of the net.
As the game was restarted, the Algerians managed to string a few passes but could not maintain possession. Coach. Azzedine Chih’s charges succumbed to more goals with Ghana’s Oben Helena netting twice (52′ and 62′) Asuako Philicity and Anokye Olivia put the Algerians out of their misery with goals in the 83rd and 90th respectively.
The Algerians will have to take this game as a learning experience as they head out to Ghana for the return leg scheduled for September 29th in Accra.
