SAFA president Dr Danny Jordaan confirmed the search is still on for a new Banyana Banyana coach and that South African football’s governing body will this week hold a meeting to discuss the situation.
Former Banyana captain Desiree Ellis was appointed caretaker coach of the women’s national team last October following the departure of Vera Pauw.
Pauw vacated the position following the expiration of her contract at the end of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, in which South Africa were eliminated in the first round after finishing bottom of Group E.
“We must still get a Banyana coach and that meeting is happening tomorrow [Thursday],” Dr Jordaan told the media at SAFA House today.
“[We’re] not just [looking] in the US, but Europe, also. The interest, it’s extraordinary in the Banyana coach.”
